Muscle tension is a common cause of neck pain and can develop as a result of poor posture, repetitive movements, and injuries,
- Hot and cold therapy. Using ice packs or heating pads can help relieve neck pain fast. Ice reduces inflammation, while heat relaxes stiff muscles. For best results, you may alternate the two for about 20 minutes several times a day.
- Neck pain caused by muscle tension or strain usually goes away on its own within a few days.
- Neck pain that continues longer than several weeks often responds to exercise, stretching, physical therapy and massage. Sometimes, you may need steroid injections or even surgery to relieve neck pain.
- Use a pillow that supports the curvature of your neck and a flatter pillow to cushion your head.
- Don’t stay in one position for too long.
- Make some ergonomic adjustments
- If you wear glasses, keep your prescription up-to-date.
- Know your limits when lifting or moving weights
- Get a good night’s sleep.
Check your desk – avoid straining your neck and eyes. Center your computer monitor in front of you, about an arm’s length away. The monitor should be about 2 to 3 inches above your eyes.
